How to Search Fresno County Inmates
The Sheriff Inmate Information Center is the official jail roster for Fresno County. The landing page links to the live search at https://publicinfo.fresnosheriff.org/inmateinfocenter/incustody. The roster shows people in custody right now. It does not show state prison inmates, federal inmates, or ICE holds. For those, use CDCR CIRIS, the federal BOP locator, or the agency holding the person.
The Sheriff added an A-Z search feature so the public can browse everyone in jail alphabetically. The page title reads "List Of Incustody Inmates By Last Name." The app may take a moment to load before search fields appear.

The landing page acts as the doorway into the live jail database. From here the user clicks through to the Inmate Information Center to run a name search.
How to Use the Inmate Roster
The roster is free to search. Anyone can use it. Follow these steps to look up a person held in Fresno County Jail.
- Open https://publicinfo.fresnosheriff.org/inmateinfocenter/incustody in a browser. Wait for the page to load fully.
- Use the A-Z tab or last name filter. Enter the last name. A partial last name may return broader hits.
- Review the list. Match on first name, date of birth, or booking number if more than one record appears.
- Click the row to open the detail view. Note the JID, housing assignment, charges, bail, and any court date listed.
- If the page does not load or the name is common, call Inmate Info at (559) 600-8600 or (559) 475-9491.
Names get added at booking and removed at release. A person may not appear right away if they are still in intake or have been moved to court, the hospital, or another agency.

What the Jail Search Shows
When a row opens, the profile lists the data points that the jail uses to track each person in custody. The same fields drive phone messaging, mail routing, and money deposits. The JID number is the key piece. It is the seven-digit number that family, friends, and vendors must use to reach the right person.

|---|---|
| Name | Full legal name as booked. |
| JID (Jail ID) | Seven-digit Fresno County jail identifier. Used as 0 + JID for the voicemail PIN. |
| Custody Status | In custody, released, or transferred. Updates as the jail processes paperwork. |
| Housing | Facility and unit, such as Main Jail, North Annex, or West Annex. |
| Booking Date | Date the person was booked into the jail. |
| Charges | Charge information filed at the time of booking. May change once the DA files. |
| Bail / Bond | Bail amount, if any, set by schedule or the court. |
| Court Information | Next court date and department, where the system has it. |

Inmate Information Phone Lines
The Sheriff staffs several phone lines for jail questions. Records is the main number for jail and arrest records. Inmate Info confirms custody. The Watch Commander handles urgent matters. The voicemail line lets family leave a paid message, since inmates cannot get incoming calls.

Sheriff Jail Division covers operations, the federal consent decree, and the rules each inmate gets in the Incarcerated Person Orientation Handbook.
The Jail Division page outlines the broad rules that shape daily life in the facilities. Many family questions are answered first through the handbook and the posted rules in each housing unit.
Fresno County Jail Facilities
The jail system now runs three open facilities after the South Annex closed. The Main Jail and North Annex sit on M Street downtown. The new West Annex Jail opened in December 2024 on Merced Street. The South Annex Jail at 2280 Fresno Street closed for good on December 14, 2024.

Booking Process and the Right to Phone Calls
Booking starts at intake. Staff record the arrest, take a photo, take fingerprints, screen for medical needs, and assign a JID. Intoxicated inmates may be held up to six hours, at times longer, to make sure they are sober enough to be released. The jail runs nursing sick call, dental, lab, and a 35-bed outpatient holding unit at Main Jail.
California gives newly arrested people the right to three completed phone calls after booking under Penal Code section 851.5. Intake holding areas have phones for free local calls. Long-distance calls may be collect. After booking, the person is moved to a housing unit based on a classification review.
The jail has been under a federal consent decree since 1993. The decree controls the number of people held and requires each person to have a bed.
Inmate Telephones and Voicemail
Inmates cannot get incoming calls. The jail handles inbound contact through a paid voicemail line. Outgoing housing-unit phones are usually on from 8:00 AM to 9:45 PM. Phone hours may be cut short for searches, lockdowns, emergencies, or discipline. Legacy Inmate Communications is no longer the phone provider; tablet funds run through GettingOut/GTL.
Sheriff inmate telephones lists the current call rules and the voicemail process for families.
The page makes clear that the voicemail PIN is 0 plus the seven-digit JID. The fee is $1.00 for each 30 seconds. That fee is paid by the caller, not the inmate.
For emergencies, such as a death in the family or a serious illness, the Watch Commander at (559) 600-8440 decides whether to deliver a notification message. The sergeant on duty may also help. Do not call the housing-unit phones; they only call out.
Commissary and Money Deposits
A money account is opened at booking. Funds taken from the person at intake go on the books. Family and friends can add money for commissary, postage, and basic items. The cap on commissary spending is $175 per week. Deposits go through TouchPay at jail lobby kiosks and through TouchPay online or by phone. Tablet and entertainment funds flow through GettingOut/GTL.
| Service | Provider / Location | Key Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Commissary money | TouchPay | Max $175 per week per inmate. |
| Tablet funds | GettingOut / GTL | Use a GTL or GettingOut account. |
| Phone access | Housing unit phones | Normally 8:00 AM to 9:45 PM, subject to restrictions. |
| Voicemail | (559) 400-7521 | Enter 0 + seven-digit JID. $1.00 per 30 seconds. |
| Emergency message | Watch Commander (559) 600-8440 | Sergeant or Watch Commander decides if a notification is given. |
| Inmate info | (559) 475-9491 or (559) 600-8600 | Confirm custody status or release. |
In March 2026 the Fresno County Sheriff warned of phone scams. Callers falsely claim they can arrange jail release in exchange for cryptocurrency or digital payments. The Sheriff states the office never asks for money or fine payments over the phone. Do not pay anyone who calls claiming to act for the jail. Report scam calls to the Sheriff and to the Federal Trade Commission.
Visiting a Fresno County Jail
The Sheriff posts a visiting rules page and a visiting schedule page. Schedules are effective January 27, 2026 and were last updated February 18, 2026. The schedule appears as images for each jail. Each visit lasts 30 minutes. Only two visitors are allowed per inmate. One of the two may be a minor, but minors must be the inmate's immediate family. There is no rotation between visitors. Visits run first come, first served.
Sheriff visiting schedule effective January 27, 2026 hosts the schedule images for Main Jail, North Annex, and West Annex.
The schedule image lists the time blocks for each housing unit. Hours vary by facility and by week. Check the page on the day of the visit because times can shift.
Cell phones are banned in the visiting area. Anyone caught with a phone gets a 90-day visiting ban. A repeat offense may lead to criminal charges and a permanent expulsion. Lock the phone in a vehicle or in a locker before entry. The Sheriff also does not hold visitor property and is not on the hook for lost or stolen items.
Dress code is strict. Skirts, dresses, shorts, and slits may not show more than four inches above the knee while standing. Sheer fabric, halter tops, tight tops, sleepwear, and gang or drug images are banned. Bring a valid government photo ID. Foreign consulate cards and USCIS cards are accepted. Check-cashing cards and temporary licenses are not.
Hospital visits need Watch Commander approval. Special visits may be set for stays over seven days, for childbirth, or for critical injuries. No physical contact, no exchange of items, and no photos are allowed.
Mail to Fresno County Jail Inmates
The Sheriff changed the mail process in September 2025. Mail is now handled through a new delivery method. The current rules and the new mailing address are posted on the official inmate mail page. Older summaries may list a different address. Always use the current Sheriff page before sending a letter, photo, or card. Books and packages still go through the publisher-only and vendor rules listed on the Sheriff page.
Legal mail from attorneys is opened only in front of the inmate. Personal mail may be scanned, copied, or rejected if it breaks the rules. Banned items include staples, paperclips, glitter, stickers, tape, perfume, crayons, gel pens, and polaroids.
Medical Screening and Classification
The County Public Health Correctional Health Services unit runs jail medical care. Public Health reports more than 100,000 sick calls and 40,000 health screenings each year at the adult jail facilities. Each new inmate gets a health screening by licensed staff at booking. Nursing sick call, clinician sick call, medications, dental, and lab services follow. Main Jail has a 35-bed outpatient holding unit for inmates with higher medical needs.
Mental health concerns route through the same intake screening. Inmates with serious needs may be housed in observation cells. The grievance process covers medical care, classification, program access, phone use, mail, visits, officer conduct, food, clothing, and bedding. A family call from outside is not the formal grievance. The inmate must file through the internal jail process.
Recent Changes (West Annex Open, South Annex Closed)
The biggest recent change is the facility swap. West Annex Jail opened in December 2024 at 2208 Merced Street with 300 beds. South Annex Jail at 2280 Fresno Street closed for good on December 14, 2024. The project cost about $100 million, with an $80 million state grant. West Annex has classrooms, exercise yards, medical clinics, laundry, video visit stations, and observation cells.
The January 27, 2026 schedule covers all three open jails. The mail process changed in September 2025. The Sheriff continues to warn the public about scam calls that demand money for "release" or "fines." Those calls are never real.
